Natural colored cocoon silk product is a product that the cocoon and silk industry has been expecting for nearly a hundred years. It has a model significance for reducing dyeing and finishing emissions and enhancing silk influence, and has great commercial development prospects.

Reporter: white silk cocoons have been used in the production of modern silk industry. The technology of cocoon and silk processing is all based on white mulberry silk. So what are the main technical characteristics of white mulberry silk? What are the disadvantages?


Xu Shiqing: there are three main disadvantages. First, white mulberry silk is always dependent on chemical dyeing to produce colored silk products. There are a large number of printing and dyeing wastewater. The products are chemical dyes and drug residues. Two, the machine is widely used for cocoon processing, silk reeling and weaving. There are high requirements for cocoon, silk, silk length and silk content in raw silk cocoons. Three, in order to obtain the silky texture of silk, it is necessary to remove the sericin protein which accounts for 20%~30% of raw silk weight.

With the annual production of 100 thousand tons of silk in China, the sericin protein flowing into the water every year exceeds 20 thousand ~3 million tons, worth nearly 20 billion yuan, which is a great waste of resources and an environmental pollution source.


Reporter: Based on these disadvantages, what are the advantages of R & D and application of natural colored cocoon silk? What are the technical problems encountered in the process of R & D?


Xu Shiqing: the background of our project is to develop the silkworm cocoon material with natural color and the textile products such as colored silk and silk, which are in line with the requirements of modern silk industry. At the same time, in the process of processing, we integrate innovative technology and recycle sericin efficiently.


The difficulty of the project is that we lack direct basic research materials, and have no systematic industrial technology and technology.

Because there is no natural cocoon material in China to produce practical silkworm varieties, this work needs to start almost from scratch, while natural color cocoon related germplasm resources have lagged behind white cocoons for nearly 100 years. Meanwhile, silkworm cocoon color is controlled by dozens of genes, and the genetic complexity and cultivar breeding are very difficult.

In addition, there are serious technical problems such as serious loss of pigment, uneven color and color spots, color fastness, flexibility and poor wearability in the process of natural coloured cocoon.


Reporter: How did your project team break through these bottlenecks?


Xu Shiqing: relying on national scientific research cooperation and industry university research cooperation, we have organized a platform for the industrialization of natural colored cocoons.

The silkworm variety was innovated through genetic modification, and the cocoon silk product innovation was realized by innovating the characteristics of silk protein fiber material.

This technical scheme is the first practice in the field of animal fiber breeding. It is faced with the problems of huge system, high technical difficulty, long development cycle, and high market risk, but it is also the most effective and economical technological innovation of animal fiber.

Reporter: so far, what is the industrialization degree and achievement of the natural colored silkworm cocoon silk project?


Xu Shiqing: we have established a system standardized, simple and feasible industrial production technology system of natural color cocoon and high quality raw materials, and an industrial operation mode of "company + research institutes + base + farmers". We have built large-scale natural colored cocoon raw material production base in 6 provinces and municipalities of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guizhou, Sichuan, Chongqing and Jin, and exported the technology to Kampuchea successfully. The products directly targeted at foreign green products market and domestic high-end gift market, and increased the income of 387 thousand raw material cocoon producers by more than 20%.


At the same time, we have established and practiced the production mode of energy saving, emission reduction and circular economy of natural colored silk and products, and invented the rapid identification technology of natural colored silkworm cocoon and silk. It does not require professional equipment, and only uses special identification reagents. The identification is only 1 minutes at a time, and the cost is only about 0.1 yuan.


Reporter: for enterprises, how much is the cost of introducing the technology? What benefits can they bring to the application enterprise?


Xu Shiqing: the cost of raw cocoon production is lower than that of the same grade white cocoon. Besides raw silk cocoon production cost increased by 10%~20%, raw silk production is equivalent to other white silk production. Besides the increase of raw silk cost, the cost of dyeing production is lower than that of dyed silk textile production.


Take Xinyuan Cocoon Silk Group Co., Ltd. as an example, the company applied the whole technology in 2005 ~2010.

The level of enterprise has significantly improved. The sales income of cocoon silk has increased by 30%, 32%, 34%, 10% and 12% in the past 5 years.

Industrial products, "natural colored silk", have been awarded the certificate of high-tech products of Jiangsu province. The "gold colored silk underwear" and "natural colored silk nightgowns" have been awarded the "gold medal of innovative products" of the China Silk Association, which has strongly supported the construction of the National Silk and cocoon Silk Industrial Engineering Research Center, led by Xinyuan group, and the social impact and product popularity of the enterprises have expanded rapidly.


Reporter: what are the economic and social significance of the success of the project in the future development of the silk industry?


Xu Shiqing: the natural colored silk project has the competitiveness of raw cocoon production; its deep processing equipment makes full use of white cocoon processing equipment, significantly reduces the input of industrial production, and the quality of raw silk products reaches the level of 5A or above. The silk fabric completely solves the technical bottleneck problems of pigment loss, uneven color, poor color fastness, flexibility and wearability. The product has broken through the scope of foreign major production crafts and decorative silk fabrics, and has directly entered the underwear and home textiles market, and has played the greatest role in the natural color silk products. Relying on natural coloured cocoon raw materials, it has a demonstration significance for cocoon silk energy saving and emission reduction and circular economy production mode.
