And if retailers want to make sure that future raw materials are safe, they must commit themselves to buying more sustainable cotton because many of the sustainable cotton are now being sold into the traditional cotton market.

In fact, according to the research conducted by Solidaridad, the World Wide Fund for nature (WWF) and the British Pesticide Action Network (PANUK), only 17% of sustainability.

After being sold, 83% of the sustainable cotton is sold as a conventional cotton.

This will not only inhibit farmers' investment in sustainable cotton production, but also have a risk. Farmers will completely abandon sustainable production and miss opportunities to improve global standards.

"There are more sustainable cotton available, but surprisingly, they are not always procured by the role of sustainable cotton."

IsabelleRoger, senior manager of Solidaridad cotton program, said.

According to the study, the yield of sustainable cotton reached the highest 2 million 173 thousand tons in 2014, accounting for 8% of the global supply.

It is expected to rise to 13% in 2015.

"Purchasing more sustainable cotton has never been so simple.

Leading enterprises like Ikea and H&M have shown that their products may use 100% sustainable cotton in a few years. "

RichardHolland, director of market pformation program of the World Wide Fund for nature, said.

At present, there are 80 countries in the world planting cotton, about 33 million hectares of land, accounting for 2.5% of the global cultivated land area.

The problem of sustainable development includes the widespread use of pesticides, which accounts for about 6.2% of the world's total sales of cotton related pesticides.

With the increase of species, soil erosion and environmental pollution, cotton has been increasingly regarded as a single crop. 73% of the world's cotton production is now dependent on irrigation.

In addition to helping solve environmental problems, sustainable cotton production can provide more stable income to relieve farmers from poverty and improve working conditions.

In the 2014 report, the United States Department of labor mentioned that there were 18 countries in the process of cotton production using child labour or forced labor, including 5 of the top 6 producing countries: Mainland China, India, Pakistan, Brazil and Uzbekistan.

Some sustainable cotton standards have been formulated in the past 30 years, including organic cotton in 1980s, followed by fair trade in 2004 (Fairtrade), CottonmadeinAfrica (CmiA) in 2005, and quality cotton initiative in 2009 (BetterCottonInitiative).

Some enterprises promise that all cotton will be a source of sustainability before 2020, and Swedish fashion retailer H&M is one of them.
